My sweet Noah is now 6 years old and all six of them have been so wonderful.
This year he decided to celebrate his birthday with a Pokemon theme party with all his friends.
Unfortunately, I didn’t take a lot of pictures of the cake. I was in such a rush at home that I took the cake directly to the venue. Now I regret it.
This Pokemon cake has the Water element represented by the standing candy rock sticks on the top of the cake. We also have the Grass and the Fire element, each covering one third of the cake (shown on the right top and bottom side of the picture below). We couldn’t miss the basic element of Electricity shown on the very front of the cake.
I did take a lot of pictures of the cookies thank goodness. Typically, when I’m the one hosting the party I am working on the cake and the cookies and everything else until the very last minute. This time I was able to finish them the day (or two) before the party.
First, the party favors. Pokeballs sugar cookies were individually packaged and tied with pretty ribbons for each one of the children.
The tray had a combination of all the cookie designs and his special birthday message cookies.
Although I wish I could have incorporated a lot of the Pokemon characters, I could only do so many of them. I focused on some of the ones Noah requested, his favorite ones. Some of the characters include: Pikachu (my favorite!), Charizard (Noah’s favorite), Charmander, Totodile, and Squirtle.
This is Squirtle, a water Pokemon.
Charizard an evolved form of Charmelion, a fire Pokemon. Noah’s favorite Pokemon because it is a dragon (cousin of the Dinosaurs, he believes) and it has fire.
Totodile. More like a crocodile right? This cutie is another water basic Pokemon like Squirtle.
The adorable Pokemon on the bottom right is Charmander. He is a fire basic Pokemon that actually evolves into Charizard (the one to it’s left). I didn’t get a picture by itself.
I love how the Pokemon logos turned out.
A tray with all the assorted Pokemon sugar cookies.
A final look at my son’s 6th birthday cake.
My birthday boy Noah (bottom right side next to the boy wearing #21, Jack) and some of his friends. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get all the children in the picture. Some kiddos were outside the party room having fun.
The party was so much fun. We actually held it at the same location as last year. Noah specifically requested it. Even though we went to look at other fun places, he said that it was so much fun playing at Backyard Adventures, that he couldn’t go anywhere else. He was in charge!
I never in my life imagined that I would have a son that would enjoy watching the same cartoons I watched as a young girl. I was thrilled to hand him over my Pokemon movie collection as well as some of my Pokemon figurines. I never had Pokemon cards, but we have to thank Santa Claus for bringing him a large collection of trading cards that he can now play with.
Happy birthday my loving son. I love you with all my heart!!!
Dessie is one of my super duper best friends and her lovely daughter Gabbie (Lillie’s super duper best friend) celebrated her 6th birthday at the Des Moines’ zoo last weekend.
Part of the party package includes having the children learn and interact with two animals from the zoo, of course some of the friendly critters. They actually bring them to the room for the kids to see and touch. Gabbie choose to have a turtle and a hedgehog at her party and I decided to add another cute critter to the pack.
When Dessie asked me to take care of her treats this year, I absolutely agreed.
The hedgehog cupcakes are chocolate with buttercream icing.
Then we have some turtles on strawberry cupcakes (Gabbie’s favorite flavor). sitting on a combination of soft yellow and white buttercream icing.
And my addition to the critter set, a sweet fox. Maybe I should have made a red panda since they have one at the zoo. She looks cute (I think).
We also made sugar and brown sugar cookies for party edible favors.
After making these cookies I thought that maybe the fox should have been smelling some pretty flowers instead of a tree with barely any leaves left on the branches. Opps…
The hedgehog walking on grass…
And the turtle swimming in water, sort of… yes, no?
I think I made over 60 chocolate decorations and used them on both the cupcakes and the cookies as you could see.
Gabbie was very happy with her treats and I was delighted to hear to see her pretty happy birthday face.
We love you sweetheart… Happy Birthday!
Birthday Cookies
I had the opportunity to make cookies for a wonderful lady who could be an inspiration to a lot of people (including me). Sarah, has lost over 50 lbs by exercising and eating right and she looks amazing!
I see her super early in the morning at the gym with a big smile on her face and really enjoying her workout. Me? I’m dragging my body trying to make it though another morning’s workout. Nobody says it easy, but when you have the determination like Sarah, you can achieve your goals.
Anyway, it was Sarah’s birthday and she wanted to give her friends a small treat to share the special day. This is where I come in….
I prepared cookies following a birthday theme such as presents, party hats, balloons and cupcakes. Here are the pictures.
Did I mention that her favorite color is blue? That’s why most of the cookies have blue in them and the glitter on some of them to make them shine.
One of my cycling instructors always comes prepared with a water gun and he uses it on us! Whenever he shoots water on us he says “it easier if you smile”. Sarah definitely makes working out look sooo darn easy because she is always smiling.
Happy Birthday Sarah!
Mickey Mouse’s Playhouse Cake
Who doesn’t like Mickey Mouse? For a 2 year old boy, this was a dream cake. He is a big fan of Mickey Mouse and his mom decided that the clubhouse would make his birthday super special.
First, let me show you Mickey’s Playhouse.
Here’s a couple of pictures of the cake.
The bottom layer of the cake we have Torta alla Crema Italiana with buttercream frosting and Chocolate cake on the top.
I do have to admit that it was not my design. The customer handed me a printout of the cake she wanted and we replicated it as best as we know.
I loved it.
Birthday Support Cake
I have a funny cake to show you today. It was created for a young lady celebrating her 60th birthday. I can’t take credit for the design since her co-workers gave me a picture of what they wanted, but I came up with a different… mmmh, type of support.
All decorations are made out of chocolate (except the ribbon of course).
This cake just makes me smile.
Ft. Ed Hurley’s Celebration
This is a very special post for me. I had the honor of creating a few cakes for Father Ed Hurley’s 40th anniversary as a priest as well as a farewell because he is leaving St. Francis Church. All the cakes were designed with Fr. Hurley’s special interests and hobbies in mind. Here’s a picture of our dear Ft. Hurley.
Here we have a cake that features The Maxwell Car or The Dream Car. Inside the cake we have a delicious Almond cake with Raspberry and buttercream filling. We displayed two different view of the car (in chocolate), one had the top up while the other one is down. There are a couple of chocolate trees and a sweet banner that says “Go East Young Man”, since he is heading to St. Josephs Church on the East side.
The following cake was designed with his 40 years of service in mind. A chalice (chocolate), a bible (rice cereal), and a beautiful rosary (fondant – made by my mom) are the main decorations on this cake. This is a Red Velvet with Cream Cheese filling and covered in fondant.
The following cake’s design is a golf course as Ft. Hurley enjoys playing the sport. The Lemon Cake with buttercream and raspberry filling is covered in fondant. There is a sand area made with brown sugar, a fondant lake and colorful flowers around the cake.
Last but not least, we have a cake designed for Father Ken who was celebrating his 40th birthday. This is a white cake that has buttercream filling and we covered in fondant.
His is fond of baking so I thought that a slice of cake was appropriate. We have cookies decorated as presents and some displaying a “Happy Birthday” message.
Thank you for everything you did for all of us and for St. Francis of Assisi’s Church. We love you and wish you all the best.
