Flower Cupcakes

Posted on November 10th, 2014 in Cupcakes

It was cupcake weekend and the whole house smelled like Chocolate!

I love my butter chocolate cake is my absolute flavor because it reminds me of a sweet snack I used to eat when I was a little girl in Mexico. The cake treats are called “Pinguinos” (Penguins in English) made from a company called “Bimbo”. I know… I know. I didn’t name the company. In their defense, Bimbo doesn’t mean anything bad in Mexico and they make delicious treats.

Back to the cupcakes. I made them for a little girl to celebrate her birthday. She requested flowers.

I love the contrast of the dark chocolate cupcake against the hot pink color of the frosting. The purple flowers with the green leaf really stands out.

It’s Movie Time!

Posted on November 5th, 2014 in Cookies, News

The cookies you are about to see are super fun and they were fun to make also.

Popcorn Sugar Cookies!!!

But you cannot get in the movie theater without a ticket. The ticket was inspired by the party invitation we received from Rachel. The ticket was the personalized cookie I made specially for her.

Fall Cookies -2014

Posted on October 21st, 2014 in Cookies

Fall is one of my favorite seasons!

I was very excited to make again seasonal cookies to celebrate the arrival of this change in beautiful colors, smells and tastes.

Pumpkins, pumpkins and more pumpkins…. Pumpkins come in all different shapes and sizes. This year I decided to add a dark and deep color to the traditional pumpkin cookies that I make, a deep green.

Pumpkins IMG_6881 1 L

The top cookies are huge at about 6″!!! They are also chocolate chip sugar cookies. They are some of my family’s favorite flavor.

I truly enjoy seeing the change of colors in the leaves. Greens, browns, reds and even purples in all shades. It always inspires me to try to recreate such beauty in a sugar cookie.  Here’s my assorted set of fall leaves cookies. I made them last year, but this year just like the pumpkins, I added the deep green color to them.

I love this maple leaf. I wish I had a bigger one, but I don’t. Also, the cute acorns. I just realized I forgot to add the steam! Ooops….

Turkeys! I purchased this cookie cutter from Coppergifts and as always, it was giant!! When it finally comes out of the oven it’s huge!!  What’s bigger, “giant” or “huge”? What I am trying to say is that the cookie expanded during the baking process and it got bigger than the cutter. That’s better.

Colorful, festive and sort of silly, here are my turkeys!

A long time ago I came across a clipart image and I was in love, full of inspiration and left me with plenty of ideas! It was the perfect opportunity for me to put those ideas into cookies. I really liked them.

And finally here’s a quick look at the entire set of Fall inspired cookies.

What was my favorite this year? The tree…., but my one favorite cookie is the one colorful leaf you see on the picture above. I simply love how the  mix of colors blended.

The most difficult cookie to make? The tree…. just time consuming.

Thanks again for visiting my site. I hope you enjoyed looking at these cookies.

And Cake Balls of course. I made them look like sundaes also with their icing on top and dripping to the sides. The sprinkles finished the lovely treats.

First Communion Crosses – Saints

Posted on June 14th, 2014 in Cookies

May is the month for First Communions. This year I worked on a a few orders one of them being my daughter’s Holy Eucharist (well, I can’t count that as an order).

This set of cookies were made for a little group of boys from St. Francis of Assisi who play baseball and were celebrating their First Communion. The name of their team is the “Saints”.

saints uniform

The request called for a combination of grey, gold and black which were the colors of the uniforms and the name of the team included on the cookie. It was hard to envision a cross cookie with such deep colors. I knew I couldn’t make a black cross… and I couldn’t make it brown (like wood). Gold I thought was too deep, so my last choice was grey. I wasn’t too convinced, but I gave it a shot.

crosses IMG_5784 1

This particular cross mold doesn’t make a big cookie, so putting the name of the team on the cross was a little bit tough. By the way, writing on cookies and making eyes are my… lets say, nightmare. I have lost so many cookie doing that.

crosses IMG_5787

I knew the name would be in gold, but cookies still look too sad… too dark. Although adding a chalice and host was not part of the plan, I thought it would make the cookies a little bit brighter. I loved how they turned out!!!  I finished the cookies by brushing the chalice with gold luster dust to add shine to them.

I received wonderful comments about the cookies and that made my day.

Valentine’s Day Sweet Treats

Posted on April 2nd, 2014 in Cookies

I had the opportunity to bake again for Kindermisik. This time, the treats were for a piano musical concert. The theme was Valentines Day and because it was piano performance, I wanted to incorporate musical items, especially a piano.

Here’s a quick look at the cookies as I arranged them in a tray.

Musical notes displayed on large cookie hearts or fancy shaped cookies. A variety of musical and love messages are part of this design.

I made this heart cookie with wings design last year and really liked the way they can be decorated. You can see them here.  This year I decided to use an delicate and very elegant technique called “brush embroidery”  on the wings.

Here are a few other assorted heart shaped cookies in different sizes, shapes and colors.

Here you see the pianos.  I have to admit that I had a few issues with them this year and they were not as clean and/or straight as I wanted them to be, but I still liked them. I decided to add a pink key to them as well as hearts and love words.

The next heart shaped cookie is covered with a quilting technique.  A piped border finishes the edges and gives them a special touch to them. This design doesn’t need much more details as it is simple and elegant just as it is.

A final look of the cookies in their platter. Although red, pink and white where the main Valentine’s Day colors, I love how there’s a few shades of bright yellow and purple in the set.  The touch of black was added for the musical cookies and it stands out beautifully.

Spiderman Sugar Cookies

Posted on March 27th, 2014 in Cookies

For all the superhero fans of Spiderman.

I may not like Green Lantern too much (hope my husband doesn’t read this!). I am also not a big fan of Superman either (oh gosh, I really hope he does NOT read this), but I don’t want to go into that. Spiderman is ok, I enjoy his movies.

I had the opportunity again to make Spiderman cookies. My son Noah was very excited to see that I was working on them. He suddenly asked me if I was going to make the “evil one”, he said, “the one with the pointy teeth”. I pondered for a moment and then realized that he was talking about the evil character that appears on the 3rd Spiderman movie. I kissed my son for the wonderful idea!!!

The Black Spiderman sugar cookie was born.

Besides the Spiderman cookies, I made some spider web cookies with a huge red spider that I think looks like the iconic arachnid from the comics. The eyes of the Spiderman cookies and the big red spiders were brushed with luster dust to give them shine.

I did make one of the black spiderman cookies with the sharp and point looking teeth. It was too scary for a 4 year old, so I decided to keep it. Noah didn’t even want to eat!

Here’s a final look of the cookies. I hope you liked them.

Three new Lalaloopsy sugar cookies!!

The new Lalaloopsy sugar cookies are, Alice in Lalaloopsyland, Sunny Side Up and Cinder Slippers.

Alice in Lalaloopsyland

A fair skin Lalaloopsy doll with a big curiosity to know about everything.  She wears her long blond hair in pigtails and ties them with black ribbons. Although you don’t see it here, her pet is a little white bunny.

Sunny Side Up.

Sunny is a lovely full size doll that works at the farm taking care of her animals. A pretty fuchsia bow holds her adorable bright orange hair and uneven strands of curly hair. She is one cute tomboy that would make any girl fall in love with her.

Cinder Slippers

Yes! This adorable doll was inspired by the Cinderella story. Cinder is a fair skinned doll with soft pink cheeks. I love how she wears her blond hair up in a ponytail and uses a light pink bow. Her black eyes really stand out against her light and fair colors.

One last view of the three new dolls. My goal should be to make the full size body Lalaloopsy and/or their pets uh?

I think they are adorable! I am so glad I had the opportunity of working on three more dolls to add to my collection of Lalaloopsy sugar cookies. You can see more of them here and here.
