Yellow and Ivory wedding cake

Posted on June 21st, 2012 in Cakes, Other Sweet Treats

This is my first wedding cake after having my third baby. I am not going to lie, but I was afraid that it would be too much… and with the baby, it was.  Here’s the scoop.

We have a 4 tier wedding cake featuring ivory peones, yellow lillies and tulips. Each tier of the cake is different in height which makes it beautifully  unique (client’s request, good job!). The two main colors, yellow and ivory while the accent color is black.

Another thing you should know about the cake is that only one tier on the cake is real. Yes! We offer cakes made out of styrofoam as an option to save on the total cost of the wedding cake. The third cake from top to bottom is the real cake.  It was a delicious chocolate butter cake with chocolate buttercream.

The groom got his cake also. For a football fan we made a football cake. He is a chocolate lover so his cake was also a chocolate butter cake with chocolate buttercream and covered in fondant.

We also delivered a couple of sheet cakes. Flavors included lemon cake with raspberry filling and  white caramel cake with dulce de leche buttercream. I never take pictures of the sheet cakes, but it is not much because we just cover them in buttercream.

The client also requested Cake Truffles. Flavors included Chocolate cake with Chocolate buttercream, Strawberry cake with raspberry buttercream and White Butter cake with vanilla sweet cream buttercream. All were covered in chocolate/white chocolate and drizzled with swirls of matching colors.

Here’s a collage of the wedding cakes.

It was a delight working with this client. Here’s a beautiful Thank You card we received from her.

We delivered the cakes and treats to the historic Hotel Pattee in Perry, IA.

Congratulations to the beautiful couple.

Damask Wedding Cake

Posted on June 20th, 2012 in Cakes

We delivered this 3 tier wedding cake this past weekend to the Embassy Club Market in West Des Moines.

The design of the cake was coordinated to match the color theme.  This popular design was used all throughout  the cake and was finished with black ribbon on the bottom of each tier.

What is a little unique and different about this wedding cake is that is a buttercream covered cake.  I would say that 95% of the wedding cake we make are covered in the popular Fondant so this was a nice change for us.

We also worked on sugar roses for the cake topper.

The cake included flavors such as White Caramel with DDL bc, Neapolitan cake with Vanilla/White chocolate ganache bc and Strawberry with Vanilla bc. We also made three additional sheet cakes in flavors of chocolate, vanilla and almond.

Congratulations to the happy couple.

Green Mums Wedding Cake

Posted on July 28th, 2011 in Cakes

I had the pleasure of working with a very nice couple in creating their wedding cake. Their dream cake came together in a simple yet elegant design.

I loved the combination of turquoise and white tiered cakes accented with a deep brown ribbon around each tier.

Heavier on the bottom and lighter on the top, Swiss dots highlight the first and third tiers of this 4 tier cake. The topper is a made out of beautiful real green mums.

The cake flavors included chocolate butter, golden butter, lemon, and white caramel.

We also surprised the groom with a  personal cake decorated with a Hawkeye logo made out of chocolate.

Hawkeye Cake

This cake was a Chocolate Butter cake and it was covered in buttercream. The design included the lines from the football field. This is a very popular cake design!

We delivered the cake to the Historical Building in downtown Des Moines. The couple also had a separate White Butter sheet cake (not shown) for guests.

I do have to apologize for the terrible pictures I took. The lighting was shinning on the cake table and my camera is really not the best.

Congratulations to the lovely couple.

B White Turquoise Cake

Posted on June 8th, 2011 in Cakes

The following wedding cake was designed for a beautiful couple who joined in marriage this past May.

Each of the cake’s layers is represented with a different design. The bottom layer is adorned with drapes or swags going from one corner to the other.

The second or middle tier have a diamond patter and every other intersection is joined with a small silver detail that gave it a nice touch.

The top tier is covered with random dots that are heavier on the bottom and lighter on the top. A beautiful “B” topper sits on this layer to represent their union.

The couple also received three large sheet cakes in different flavors: red velvet with cream cheese frosting, white caramel cake with dulce de leche frosting & a chocolate delight cake with raspberry and buttercream frosting.

There was a special cheesecake designed specially for the groom. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get a picture of it (and I hate myself for it because it was very neat). I know that any Iowa Hawkeye fan would have appreciate it as a chocolate hawkeye logo sat on top of it.

I love the simplicity and elegant design of the cake. The fact that each layer is different in design made it unique and special to the bride. The roses on the cake were displayed in their reception (which by the way, it looked beautiful).

To the lovely couple, congratulations and thanks for letting me be part of your special day.

Blue Dreams Cake

Posted on April 4th, 2011 in Cakes

I met with a lovely couple last year to discuss their wedding cake and they simply loved a cake previously made by us.

With a few little changes, we delivered a similar cake this weekend. Pardon the pictures, but my camera is  not too good.

This 3 tier cake was highlighted with a mix of blue and white flowers of the same shape, but in different sizes. Ribbon in the same color shade accentuated the top and bottom tiers.

Cake flavors included Chocolate delight with chocolate buttercream filling, chocolate delight with chocolate ganache filling & Caramel cake with our delicious dulce de leche frosting.

An additional double layer sheet cake was delivered to the reception.

Have you ever wondered how heavy wedding cakes are? Anyway, I hope the cake was a success and that the couple and guests enjoyed it.
